HelpYouBook was created to remove the guesswork from choosing a hotel by combining careful editorial research with consistently high guest satisfaction ratings across trusted booking platforms. Rather than listing hundreds of hotels, we focus on a carefully curated selection that travellers can book with confidence.
Our Curation Methodology
We do not use automated bots or random feeds to generate our hotel lists. Every property featured on HelpYouBook undergoes a careful manual vetting process to ensure it meets our strict quality standards:
- The 9/10 Quality Threshold: To be considered for inclusion in our guides, a hotel must hold a guest rating of 9/10 or higher on both Trip.com and Expedia at the time of writing.
- Cross-Platform Verification: We do not only rely on Trip.com and Expedia. Every hotel is manually cross-checked against guest ratings and overall guest sentiment from other major booking platforms and should have demonstrated broadly positive review trends across such booking platforms.
- Geographical Targeting: We break every destination down into distinct geographical areas, helping you choose the exact vibe – whether historic, artistic, or modern – that matches your travel style.
- Quality Over Quantity: Rather than listing every hotel in a destination, we only include properties that meet our strict editorial standards, even if that means leaving a budget tier unfilled.
For each destination, we spend hours categorizing and filtering hotels to each specific area and budget tier, reading and analyzing the reviews in detail, and comparing the reviews between qualifying hotels.
We specifically also study the negative reviews. It is important to determine whether it was a once-off bad experience of one guest or whether it is a recurring problem also mentioned in other reviews.
We also evaluate the enthusiasm with which reviews were written. You could have two hotels, both with a 9.3 guest rating, but most of the reviews of the one might be along the lines of “It was good”, whereas most of the reviews of the other might be explaining how wonderful it was, how it was the best hotel experience they have ever had and why they would return to this hotel or why they are already on a repeat visit. Both hotels have 9.3, but surely the enthusiastic 9.3 should weigh heavier.
Last but not least, we consider the convenience of the location, the amenities provided, the proximity to public transport, and the value for money offered.
Only after this lengthy process, our selection is made.

About the Founder
HelpYouBook was founded by Abrian de Witt, a South African property lawyer and entrepreneur with a passion for travel, research, and informed decision-making. While travelling regularly to China to visit manufacturers for his importing business, he discovered that researching and selecting the right hotel became one of the most rewarding parts of every trip.
He realised that choosing accommodation involved much more than comparing prices. Location, access to public transport, proximity to key attractions or business districts, guest satisfaction, and overall value all play an important role in creating a successful travel experience. Finding a hotel that truly complements a destination often requires careful research and the comparison of information from multiple sources.
That passion for careful research inspired the creation of HelpYouBook. The same carefully developed editorial methodology is applied to every destination guide, making it easier to compare destinations and make informed booking decisions.
